Police arrested one of the suspected attackers with a revolver at Hatirjheel after the attack around 1pm.
Police said the victim, Badsha, died while being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 6pm.
The attackers shot him from a close range, Badda Police Station OC Kazi Wazed Ali told bdnews24.com.
“The people of the area chased the attackers and caught one of them with a revolver in Hatirjheel area. The locals beat him up before handing him to police,” he added.
The suspect gunman, 38-year-old Nurul Islam, was also admitted to the hospital.
The OC could not give further details on Badsha or Nurul, but said both of them belong to a gang of miscreants.
He said they were checking the motive behind the murder.
