Hasina returns home from Italy, Vatican visits

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has returned home after attending the 41st session of the International Fund for Agricultural Development or IFAD Governing Council in Italy and a visit to the Vatican City.

An Etihad Airways plane carrying the prime minister touched down at Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15pm on Saturday.

Hasina went to Rome last Sunday on invitation from IFAD President Gilbert F Houngbo and Pope Francis.

She left Italy for home on Thursday and took a day-long stopover in Abu Dhabi.

Hasina met Pope Francis in the Vatican on Monday and presented the keynote paper at the IFAD conference on Tuesday.

She also joined a civic reception organised by the expatriate Bangladeshis in Rome and met World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley during the visit.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, among others, accompanied the Prime Minister during her visit to Italy and the Vatican City.
