Missing North South University teacher Mubashar Hasan returns home

North South University teacher Mubashar Hasan, nicknamed Caesar, returned home, one and a half months after he went missing.

“Caesar was dropped off by unknown people on the Airport Road. He then returned home by autorickshaw,” his father Motahar Hossain told bdnews24.com.

His condition mirrors the sudden disappearance of journalist Utpal Das who returned home on Tuesday after more than two months in captivity.

Police in Narayanganj said Utpal was dropped off from a car at a filling station in Rupganj.

Another ‘abduction’ grabbed headlines in Bangladesh: Aniruddha Kumar Roy, a businessman who was led away by unknown people on Aug 27 from Gulshan, returned home on Nov 18.

In the latest case, Caesar went missing after he left his Banasree home and headed for the university on Nov 7. He had spoken to his father that afternoon, which was the last time the family had heard from him.

After his son arrived home at 1am on Friday, Motahar Hossain informed police about it.

“He is unwell. He is not speaking much. We will go to his place later if needed,” Khilgaon Police Inspector Jahangir Kabir Khan said quoting Motahar.

Caesar’s uncle and BIDS Researcher Manzur Hossain said Caesar was researching militancy in society.

The family filed a general diary with Khilgaon Police Station after the disappearance.

Caesar, a mass communication graduate from Dhaka University, had briefly worked as a journalist before he switched to teaching. He completed his master’s in the UK and his PhD in Australia.

Students and teachers in Dhaka University had demonstrated following the incident. Law-enforcement agencies were blamed over the several missing cases reported in recent times.

Police and Rapid Action Battalion have dismissed the speculations.

His family said he was blindfolded when a microbus dropped him off on the Airport Road. Similar accounts came from Utpal, a senior correspondent for online news website purbapashchimbd.news.

Utpal said his kidnappers had kept him confined to a room and assaulted him for money.

Caesar had no money with him when he returned home, said his sister Tamanna Tasnim.

“He was traumatised. Let him rest first. We will ask him about the matter later,” she told bdnews24.com.

Caesar, Utpal, Aniruddha and three others have returned home in the most recent cases after remaining missing for weeks.

Amid criticism from rights groups, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan recently said all the missing persons would be traced.
