Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued a rule on Monday after the initial hearing of a petition.

The court has ordered the secretaries to the cabinet division, the law ministry and the education ministry to explain within 72 hours.

Supreme Court lawyer Bashir Ahmed moved the petition with the court.

“The whole nation united with the Joy Bangla slogan during the 1971 Liberation War under the leadership of Bangabandhu,” he told the media after the hearing.

According to him, many countries have a national slogan, like Jai Hind in India.

“But we do not have a national motto or slogan,” Bashir said adding the court has scheduled the next hearing for Sunday.
