Narayanganj seven-murder sentences at a glance: 26 get death penalty

A Narayanganj court has found 35 persons guilty in sensational 2014 seven-murder case in Narayanganj.

The court awarded death penalty to 26 including former Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain and three former senior RAB officers, who include its local commander.

Nine others have been sentenced to various prison terms. 

Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdict on Monday.

Twelve convicts, of whom eight are former RAB personnel, are absconding.

On the afternoon of Apr 27, 2014, Naraynganj City Councillor and Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam and five of his associates were abducted from their car on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road.

Around the same time and from the same location, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver, who were in another car, were kidnapped.

Three days later, their bloated bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River.

Nazrul's wife Selina Islam Beauty and Chandan’s son-in-law Bijoy Kumar Pal filed two cases in which the verdicts were delivered on Monday.

Twenty-five of the convicts belonged to different law enforcement bodies and the rest are accomplices of Nur Hossain, one of the masterminds of the murders.
