They occupied a stretch from Paltan to Dainik Bangla intersections after 11:30am on Friday, chanting slogans, demanding the former minister's punishment.

After the Jumma prayers, they took to the streets holding a rally at the Paltan intersection, bringing traffic to a halt.

Over a hundred police personnel had been deployed but they did not hinder the rally.

A policeman said: "No one has been given permission to hold a rally here. We are cautious about keeping things under control."
