Special prayers were said in mosques after the Maghrib prayers and other places of worships on Tuesday evening seeking early recovery of President Mohammad Zillur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all to pray for the ailing President, said Abul Kalam Azad, her Press Secretary said.
The President is undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore but his situation remained unchanged.
He was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka Saturday night with respiratory problems. Later, it was decided to fly him to Singapore for better medical treatment.
“He (the President) is ageing and suffering from lungs complications. His condition has not changed much from what it was in Dhaka,” Rahman’s son Nazmul Hassan told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.
Hassan said doctors at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital would be able to tell more about his current condition after a few hours.
Rahman took office as Bangladesh’s 19th President in 2009. He celebrated his 85th birthday on Mar 9.
