Shahadat Chowdhury buried with state honour, people from all strata pay homage

Dhaka, Nov 30 (BDNEWS) – Renowned journalist and freedom fighter Shahadat Chowdhury was buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Shahadat Chowdhury was taken to his new DOHS residence from the mortuary of BIRDEM hospital at about 7:30 am on Wednesday.
His relatives and colleagues thronged his residence to have a glance at the body.
People from all walks of life paid a glowing tribute to Shahadat Chowdhury after his body was brought to the 'Central Shaheed Minar' at 11 am.
Shahadat Chowdhury's colleagues of crack platoon under sector no 2 of liberation war, CPB general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, activists of Bangladesh Awami League led by Asaduzzaman Noor MP, JSD, Workers' Party, Left Democratic Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri, Narigrantha Prabartana, Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, Anisul Haq, among others placed wreaths at the coffin of Shahadat Chowdhury to bid adieu to him.
His body was brought to the National Press Club at about 12:30 pm, where his journalist colleagues paid respect to the veteran journalist of the country.
The namaz-e-janaza of Shahadat Chowdhury was held at the National Press Club premises after the Johr prayers.
Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, BNP secretary general and LGRD minister, Dhaka city Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Hussain Mohammad Ershad of Jatiya Party, journalist Nirmal Sen, Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed, governor of Bangladesh Bank, Abul Hasan Chowdhury, former state minister for foreign affairs, among others, paid respect to him placing wreaths.
The Qulkhani of Shahadat Chowdhury will be held on December 2 at his residence.
Shahadat Chowdhury breathed his last at the BIRDEM hospital at 12:45 am Monday. He was 62 and had been suffering from heart disease and septicaemia.
Earlier, after falling ill, he was admitted to the Gano Sastha Hospital. Later he was shifted to the BIRDEM hospital when his condition deteriorated.
Shahadat Chowdhury actively took part in the liberation war in 1971. After the independence, he joined weekly Bichitra and served as the editor of the magazine till 1997. After the closure of Bichitra, he became the editor of 'Saptahik 2000 and fortnightly Anandadhara.
