Border Guard Bangladesh tightens security, patrols at Cumilla frontier

Authorities are increasing intelligence monitoring in areas previously used for illegal crossings

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has tightened surveillance and patrol operations along the Cumilla border to prevent possible infiltration attempts.

Lt Col Mir Ali Ejaz, commanding officer of Cumilla Battalion-10, said security has been bolstered across the district's frontier following directives from BGB Headquarters.

On Thursday, BGB personnel were seen conducting regular patrols near the barbed-wire fence in the Golabari border area of Adarsha Sadar upazila.

Suspected vehicles and pedestrians were also being questioned cautiously during the operation.

“Extra surveillance is being maintained in areas where infiltration incidents occurred in the past. Patrol activities have also been doubled,” Lt Col Ejaz said.

The paramilitary force noted that Adarsha Sadar and Chauddagram are receiving the most attention within the roughly 106-km Cumilla border.

Patrolling and intelligence activities have been ramped up at identified points of potential infiltration.

Local authorities, public representatives, and residents living near the border have also been instructed to remain on high alert.
