A Narail court has sentenced a teacher named Meraj Ali to life in prison in a case involving the rape of a madrasa student.
The verdict was delivered on Monday by Sheikh Samidul Islam, judge of the Narail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, said Azibur Rahman Aziz, the state counsel for the court.
Meraj hails from Rudrapur Kalia Bakir village in the Darshana-Mohammadpur Upazila of Chuadanga.
According to the case details, on the night of Jul 10, 2025, the accused, Meraj Ali, called a 10-year-old student of Rahmania Taishirul Ulum Madrasa in the Raghunathpur area of Narail municipality to his room and raped him.
The child was threatened and intimidated so that he would not disclose the incident to anyone.
Later, the child told his parents that the teacher had raped him several times over two months. After the matter came to light, Meraj fled. Locals later detained him on Jul 12.
The child’s mother subsequently filed a case with the Narail Sadar Police Station.
Public Prosecutor Aziz said the accused was also fined Tk 300,000 in addition to the life sentence. The court ordered that the fine be recovered and handed over to the child’s family.
