All 49 candidates for the reserved women’s seats in the parliament have been elected unopposed.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Returning Officer Moin Uddin Khan, a joint secretary of the Election Commission.

Speaking at the Election Building in the afternoon, he said the list of 49 valid candidates had been finalised and would be placed before the commission before being formally declared elected unopposed.

The Election Commission Secretariat will then publish a gazette containing the names and addresses of the newly elected lawmakers, he said.

After publication, the gazette will be sent to the Parliament Secretariat for arrangements for their swearing-in.

“No candidate submitted a withdrawal application within the designated timeframe (9am to 4pm),” the returning officer said.

“Since the number of nomination papers matched the number of vacant seats, we will issue the gazette tomorrow (Thursday) in accordance with the law.”
