Chhatra Dal activists have reportedly locked the office of the chairman of Bhatra Union council under Ramganj Upazila in Lakshmipur after forcing him out.

They have also allegedly whisked away the CCTV camera from the room of the union secretary.

Locals protested the incidents on Monday afternoon and Sunday night at Bhatra Bazar.

Chairman Shamsul Alam Bulbul said the attackers led by Ramganj Upazila unit Chhatra Dal President Jahir Raihan Babu stormed the office on Sunday afternoon.

Union Secretary Sujan Chandra Das said they asked him to delete CCTV footage. But when Sujan said he did not know how to do so, they took away the device.

“I’ve reported the matter to the UNO (Upazila administrator),” he said.

The Chhatra Dal activists did not return the device while filing the report on Monday evening.

Chhatra Dal leader Babu said Awami League supporters threw an Iftar party in the area three days ago.

“That’s why we went to the union council. Locals accompanied us at that time,” he said, arguing that he was not aware of the CCTV being stolen.

The chairman, however, claimed to have no idea about the Iftar feast.

Ramganj UNO Farashid Bin Enam said he asked the Union council secretary to file a written complaint.

“The chairman can take legal measures himself for the locking of his office,” the UNO said.

Ramganj Police chief Firoz Uddin Khan said they were yet to receive any complaint.
