Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has said the government will bear the expenses of the wife and children of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment worker who was lynched and burned by a mob over allegedly for insulting Islam.
He made the remarks while expressing his condolences on behalf of the government at Dipu’s house in Banihala Union in Tarakanda Upazila of Mymensingh on Tuesday.
He said, “Dipu’s family is not alone. We are by his side in such a crisis.
“The government will talk to his wife and children and provide them with all kinds of financial and legal assistance.”
Condemning the murder, Abrar said: “Allegations, rumours, or religious differences cannot be an excuse for such barbarity. The government has the power to enforce the highest law.
“Law-enforcing agencies have arrested 12 people in the murder case. Investigation is under way.
“All those involved in this will be brought under the law, and the culprits will be given the maximum punishment.”
The advisor said people of all religions live in Bangladesh, and everyone enjoys freedom of expression, which is respected by the state.
He said, “Currently, some miscreants are trying to incite these by creating divisions and differences. We all have to be vigilant about these issues, and they cannot be allowed to happen. The law enforcement agencies will take maximum action in these incidents.”
When asked whether these incidents would affect the election, Rafiqul Abrar said, “These activities will not affect the election in any way. Provocations from other countries will also not affect the election.”
On Thursday, a group of people lynched Dipu to death on charges of allegedly insulting religion. Later, his body was hung from a tree and set ablaze.
The day after the incident, Dipu’s younger brother Apu Das filed a case with Bhaluka Police Station, accusing 150 unidentified people.
