A Grameen Bank office in Mymensingh’s Gouripur has been set on fire, destroying furniture and important documents.
The attack took place on Friday after Jumma prayers at the Douhakhola Union office, a bank employee and local police said.
Rahima Khatun, field officer of the Gouripur branch, said she lives next to the bank. She noticed flames inside the office through a window and rushed to the scene.
She saw the window had been broken and the fire was spreading.
Rahima called nearby people and together they brought the fire under control using sand and water before the Fire Service arrived shortly after.
Shah Md Nazrul Islam, manager of the Douhakhola branch, said he was at home at the time and came to the bank after receiving a phone call.

“I have heard the window was broken. I cannot say more at this moment. A complaint has been filed at the police station,” he added.
Gouripur Police chief Kamrul Hasan said officers were sent to the scene after receiving the report. A site investigation was carried out, and efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved.
He added that the branch manager had submitted a formal complaint and a case is being lodged against unidentified individuals.
