Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has fallen ill as a result of “excessive work pressure”, according to his wife Nusrat Imrose Tisha.

The actress said Farooki, who is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka, is “out of danger” after suddenly becoming unwell at a ministry workshop in Cox's Bazar.

Farooki, who travelled to the beach town on Friday for a four-day visit, attended several events until Saturday evening. Later that night, he began experiencing abdominal pain, according to Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin.

He was subsequently examined by local doctors and flown to Dhaka at 10:40pm, said Salahuddin.

Civil Surgeon Mohammadul Haque said the illness was linked to “food poisoning”. After initial treatment, Farooki was airlifted to the capital by air ambulance.

In a Facebook post late on Saturday night, Tisha wrote: “He is currently under treatment at a hospital. Doctors have said he became ill due to excessive work pressure. For now, he is out of danger. Please keep him in your prayers.”

Tisha could not be reached for further comment. Officials at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs said they had no further information about his condition.
