A Bangladeshi man has been injured after India's Border Security Force (BSF) reportedly opened fire in Jhenaidah.
The incident occurred at the Shyampur border on Monday night, said Munshi Emdadul Islam, assistant director of Border Guard Bangladesh's (BGB) Moheshpur-58 Battalion.
The injured man has been identified as Md Rubel Mia, 30.
Relatives said he works for a private company.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition around 8:30am on Monday.
Doctors at the emergency department later admitted him.
His wife Sanjida Begum said Rubel had been standing in the yard of their home when a bullet allegedly fired by the BSF struck the lower left side of his chest.
She said family members rushed him to Jashore General Hospital before he was transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH outpost, said the victim had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound from Jhenaidah and was receiving treatment.
He said relatives had told police that Rubel was injured by BSF firing and the matter had been reported to the relevant police station.
