Jungle Salimpur: 300 accused in case over attack on joint forces camp

The case names 43 people, including five who were arrested from the scene

Joint forces conduct an operation in Chattogram's Jungle Salimpur, known as a hotbed of criminal activity, on Monday following an attack on a camp on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Police have filed a case over the attack on a joint forces camp in Chattogram’s Jungle Salimpur.

The case, which named 43 suspects, was filed on Monday night at Sitakunda Police Station.

Sitakunda Police Station Inspector Alamgir Hossain told bdnews24.com that Faujdarhat Outpost Inspector Sohel Rana is acting as the plaintiff.

Five of the suspects arrested from the scene are among those named in the case. In addition, 200 to 300 unknown suspects have also been accused.

Inspector Alamgir said the case has been filed under various laws, including damage to public property, obstruction of police work, and under the Explosives Act.

Late on Sunday night, criminals launched a three-pronged attack on the joint forces camp by cutting off several sections of the main road.

They exchanged gunfire with law enforcing agencies for several hours and demolished a camp under construction.

Law enforcers on duty there, locals, and workers involved in the camp construction said that the criminals brought along excavators in trucks, while many of them came on motorcycles.

They launched attacks simultaneously from the east, west and south sides of Ali Nagar School. In addition to throwing brickbats, they also fired a large number of bullets.

Chattogram District Superintendent of Police Masud Alam told reporters at the scene that about 105 rounds of bullets were fired by police.

After the attack, the criminals fled into the hills. The excavators, vacuum machines, trucks and two motorcycles left behind by them have been seized by police.

RAB-7 commander Lt Col Hafizur Rahman blamed the Yasin Bahini – an “elusive” gang that controls parts of Jungle Salimpur - for the incident.

However, Sitakunda Police Inspector Alamgir could not confirm who had been named as suspects in the case.
