Content creator Ripon Mia has been arrested in a rape case filed over the alleged rape of a schoolgirl in Netrokona Sadar.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested him in Mymensingh’s Gouripur on Thursday night after tracking him down using intelligence and technology, said Mir Ishtiaq Amin, commander of RAB-14's Mymensingh Headquarters Company.
On Tuesday night, the victim's father filed a case with Netrokona Model Police Station, naming Ripon and eight unidentified people over the alleged rape of his 13-year-old daughter.
According to the case, Ripon allegedly dragged the girl into a nearby jungle and raped her while she was cooking in the yard of her home on Aug 1 evening. Her parents were away at work at the time.
He reportedly fled after neighbours rushed to the scene on hearing her screams.
Abul Khayer, chief of Netrokona Model Police Station, said an attempt was later made to settle the matter through a local arbitration.
The meeting, held at a BNP office in a local market on Monday night, reportedly decided to fine Ripon Tk 500,000 and order him to leave the area.
Several video clips of the arbitration later spread on social media, triggering public outrage.
Ripon then went into hiding to evade arrest.
The case investigator, Inspector Mihir Ranjan Deb of Netrokona Model Police Station, said the RAB handed Ripon over to Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station and a team had been sent to bring him back to Netrokona.
