Pickup van driver, assistant die in Munshiganj road accident

The driver died on the spot while his assistant was declared dead when he was taken to the hospital

A pickup van driver and his assistant have died after another vehicle crashed into it in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar Upazila.

The accident occurred around 2am on Monday on the Nimtala Underpass, said Sreenagar Fire Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain.

The dead were identified as pickup van driver Sujan, 37, who hailed from Jashore’s Rajarhat Upazila, and his assistant Isarul, who hailed from Khulna’s Dumuria Upazila. Isarul had been living in Jashore.

Witnesses said the pickup van was heading to Dhaka from Jashore carrying raw materials when another vehicle rammed it from behind and fled the scene.

Niloy, a doctor at the emergency department of the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, said Sujan died on the spot. His helper Isarul was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Fire Service official Dewan Azad Hossain said the damaged pickup van has been taken to the Hasara Highway Police Station.

ATM Mahamudul Haquem, chief (OC) of the Hasara Highway Police Station, said traffic on the route returned to normal after the vehicle was removed from the scene.
