The government has raised fares for inland passenger vessels following a recent increase in fuel prices.

The Ministry of Shipping on Tuesday issued a statement increasing launch fares by Tk 0.18 per kilometre for shorter routes under 100km, and Tk 0.14 per kilometre for longer distances.

The hike translates to a 6.49 percent increase for short-distance journeys and 5.88 percent for long-distance travel, the statement said.

The move comes days after the government raised fares for diesel-powered buses across the country in response to higher fuel costs.

On Thursday, bus fares were increased by Tk 0.11 per kilometre nationwide.

However, the minimum fares for buses and minibuses in Dhaka and Chattogram remain unchanged at Tk 10 and Tk 8 each.
