Dhaka, Apr 18 (bdnews24.com) — Fifteen of the 17 newly appointed additional judges to the High Court took an oath on Sunday from the Chief justice Md Fazlul Karim.
President Zillur Rahman, with the consent of the chief justice, had appointed 17 new additional judges on Apr 11.
It is understood that the Chief Justice refused to give the oath to Md Ruhul Kuddus Babu, a former student leader of JSD Chaatra League, and to deputy attorney general Muhammad Khasruzzaman.
Several newspapers have reported that Babu had an old murder case against him and that his name was only recently struck from the list of the accused and that Khasruzzaman had taken part in vandalism in the Supreme Court area including kicking at the door of the Chief Justice's office.
The 15 judges sworn in include Supreme Court lawyer M Faruk, Supreme Court registrar Shawkat Hossain, deputy attorney general FRM Nazmul Ahsan, Dhaka District and Sessions judge Krishna Debnath, Dhaka Sessions judge ANM Bashirullah, Supreme Court lawyer Abdur Rab, Dr Kazi Reza-ul-Haque, Md Abu Zafar Siddique, additional attorney general AKM Jahurul Haque, Supreme Court lawyer Jahangir Hossain Selim, Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain, Habibul Gani, Gobinda Chandra Thakur, Sheikh Hasan Arif and former deputy attorney general JBM Hasan.
No Appellate Division judge was present during the ceremony and only a few High Court judges attended there.
