Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Sarwar has said all Pahela Baishakh celebrations in the capital must conclude within the stipulated time, with strict security measures in place across venues and procession routes.
He made the remarks while inspecting Ramna Park on Sunday, the main venue for the Bengali New Year celebrations, where he reviewed security arrangements ahead of the programme.
The commissioner said no masks, bags, sharp objects or flammable materials will be allowed inside the venue.
The DMP also banned lanterns, fireworks and loud musical instruments that could cause noise pollution.
“All events must be completed within the specified time, and the venue must be vacated by 6pm,” he said, adding that entry gates will open at 5am for visitors.
The Chhayanaut event at Ramna Park, one of the central cultural events marking Pahela Baishakh, will run from 6:15am to 8:30am, he said.
Entry will be allowed through Arunodoy Gate, Ramna Restaurant Gate, and the Astachal Gate opposite Shishu Park, he added.
Responding to questions, Sarwar said there is no security threat surrounding the celebrations, adding that arrangements have been made considering all possible risks.
The commissioner also outlined the schedule for the traditional Baishakhi procession, which will begin at 9am from the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola), University of Dhaka.
The procession will pass through Shahbagh intersection, TSC crossing near the Raju Sculpture, DU Metro Station, Tin Netar Mazar, Doyel Chattar, Bangla Academy and return to the Faculty of Fine Arts via TSC.
He said security has been significantly strengthened along the entire route to ensure order during the festivities.
Authorities have also warned that unauthorised groups will not be allowed to join the procession from alternative routes, stressing that strict monitoring will be maintained throughout the day.
