Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced three immediate priorities for the sector: creating conditions to bring students back to classrooms, reviewing the national curriculum and modernising technical education.
He revealed the plans while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday after a meeting at the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
State Minister for Education Bobby Hajjaj was also present.
The minister said the new government has drawn up a 12-point plan for education and will implement it in phases.
Milon, who also holds the charge of the primary and mass education ministry, said there would be no return to the “mob culture” or automatic promotion practices seen in the past.
He added that teachers would not need to take to the streets with demands, as the government would address their needs through institutional mechanisms.
To curb corruption in the education administration, the ministry plans to introduce an app-based automated transfer system for officials, where postings will be determined on merit.
The minister also expressed hope that a transfer system for MPO-listed teachers would be introduced soon, while any existing flaws would be reviewed.
He said English-medium institutions would gradually be brought under government policy frameworks, with mandatory registration, fire safety and infrastructure standards.
Expressing concern over the long-pending retirement and welfare benefits for private teachers, Milon said the relevant trust would be restructured and arrears cleared on a priority basis.
