PM Tarique Rahman inaugurates National Fisheries Week

The prime minister presented the National Fisheries Medal to 14 individuals and organisations in 13 categories at the event

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally inaugurated National Fisheries Week 2026.

The prime minister inaugurated the programme at the mini stadium of the Achmita George Institution in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi on Sunday afternoon.

When the premier arrived at the stadium, he was welcomed by Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, Fisheries State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku and State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam.

During the festival from Aug 13-30, various programmes will be undertaken to conserve fisheries resources, release fry and encourage fish farmers.

The prime minister presented the National Fisheries Medal to 14 individuals and organisations in 13 categories at the event.

The National Fisheries Festival 2026 programme was presided over by Fisheries and Livestock Minister Aminur.

Before going to the airport, Tarique visited the Katiadi Carp Hatchery.

After the fisheries event, the premier will attend a tree plantation at Sholakia Field and a family card distribution programme at Kishoreganj Stadium.
