A cook has been stabbed to death on the street in Narayanganj’s Fatullah in what police believe is linked to a recent conflict.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm on Monday near the Isdair railway line, Fatullah Model Police Station chief Abdul Mannan said.
The victim, Raihan Molla, 50, worked as a cook at Hira Community Centre in Jamtola and lived with his three sons in a rented house in Tolla.
Raihan’s middle son, identified with the single name Sabbir, said his father had recently wanted to set up a temporary food stall near Chasara Railway Station.
“A local man, Razzak, prevented him, saying he would have to pay extortion money. They argued, and Razzak once stabbed my father,” he said.
Sabbir added that due to Razzak’s influence and the number of his supporters, the family avoided further confrontation.
He suspects the attack was a continuation of this dispute, with Razzak and his associates allegedly using sharp weapons to carry out the killing.
Sub-inspector Abu Raihan of Fatullah Model Police Station said, “Several individuals attacked Raihan with sharp weapons on the street and fled. Locals took him to Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.”
Officer Mannan said the killing appeared linked to a longstanding feud.
“The victim’s family has named a few suspects. We are verifying the information, collecting CCTV footage from the area, and will identify those involved as quickly as possible,” he said.
