A ward level BNP leader has been shot in Khulna’s Rupsha Upazila, police say.
The incident took place in the Taltala area around 10:30pm on Tuesday, said Rupsa Police Station chief Abdur Razzak Mir.
The injured person is 45-year-old Shahinur Sheikh, hailing from Taltala.
The BNP vice-president of Ward No. 2 of TSB Bahirdia Union No. 4 is undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Officer Razzak said, “Shahinur Sheikh was sitting at a tea shop in his village on Tuesday night. At that time, two young men wearing helmets came on a motorcycle and opened fire on him.
“One bullet hit Shahinur in the leg. Another bullet scratched through the scalp.”
“Locals rescued him and first admitted him to Rupsa Upazila Health Complex. He was later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.”
The police officer said, “Police have opened an investigation after the incident. The exact reason for the attack is not yet known. However, it is initially believed that this incident could have happened due to some existing enmity.”
No case has been filed and no one was arrested over the incident, police say.
