Persistent rain has stranded the Cox’s Bazar-bound Parjatak Express in Chattogram city’s Sholoshahar as water covers the rail tracks.

The train got stuck around 12:40pm on Tuesday, and remained unable to resume its journey to Cox's Bazar as of 3:15pm.

Sholoshahar Station Master Ariful Islam said the Parjatak Express had left Dhaka for Cox's Bazar with more than 650 passengers on board.

The train had already crossed the station and travelled a short distance further when the waterlogged tracks brought it to a halt, forcing it back to Sholoshahar Railway Station.

He added that the train would set off again once the rail line's condition improved.

In the 24 hours to noon on Tuesday, Chattogram has seen 386.8mm of rain.

The very heavy rain has led to waterlogging in different parts of the port city. Some of the main roads are inundated too.
