Three workers hired through a contractor by the state-owned utility Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) have been electrocuted.

The incident occurred when the outsourced workers were installing electrical cables for the DESCO in the city’s Khilkhet around 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon.

M Tanveer Ahmed, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Gulshan Division, confirmed the deaths.

DESCO Chief Engineer Monjurul Haque told bdnews24.com that the team was using a crane to unload heavy electrical cables from a truck.

During the operation, he said, the equipment reportedly came into contact with a live power line.

The bodies have been kept at Kurmitola General Hospital.
