A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of seven bank accounts and 350,000 shares in the name of former state minister for disaster management Enamur Rahman.
The court also ordered the seizure of two cars worth Tk 14.6 million belonging to Enamur on Monday.
Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Monday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam said the frozen shares included 350,000 shares of Enam Medical College Hospital, 10,000 shares of Enam Education and Industrial Village and 10,000 shares of Enam Cancer Hospital.
ACC Assistant Director Papon Kumar Saha filed the petition to the court, bringing charges of attempts to transfer or misappropriate money from accounts linked to himself and his interests against Enamur.
For the sake of proper investigation, the anti-graft agency said, it is necessary to freeze and seize these assets.
Earlier, the anti-graft watchdog filed a case against Enam on Mar 10.
According to the case dossier, information about assets worth Tk 65.09 million beyond his known sources of income was traced along with suspicious transactions worth Tk 126.9 million from his five bank accounts.
Enamur was arrested from Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area on the night of Jan 26.
After the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse, many of the injured were treated at Enam Medical College Hospital, earning him praise.
Although he had no ties with the Awami League, the ruling party nominated Enamur with the boat symbol in the 10th parliamentary election in 2014.
With the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance boycotting the vote, he entered the parliament uncontested.
He retained the seat in the 11th parliamentary election in 2018 and took oath as the state minister for disaster management and relief in Sheikh Hasina's fourth cabinet on Jan 7, 2019.
Enamur again contested in the 12th parliamentary election in 2024 with the boat symbol but lost to independent candidate Saiful Islam with the truck symbol, who was serving as general secretary of the Ashulia Thana Awami League.
