A Dhaka court has deferred the deadline for submitting a supplementary investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, setting Jun 17 as the next date.
The submission of the additional inquiry files was originally slated for Sunday.
Investigating officer Abdul Kader Bhuiyan, an assistant superintendent of police with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), could not submit the report on the scheduled date.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah fixed the new date for filing the report, according to prosecution official Sub-Inspector Md Rukunuzzaman.
Hadi, who rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the campaign to ban the Awami League’s activities, had announced plans to contest the 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
On Dec 12 last year, he was critically wounded in a shooting while campaigning near Bijoynagar.
After being shot in the head, Hadi underwent emergency surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.
Two days later, he was flown to Singapore for treatment, where he died on Dec 18.
Following the shooting, the platform’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case on Dec 14. A murder charge was later added after Hadi's death.
The investigation was initially handled by local police before being transferred to the Detective Branch (DB).
After completing its inquiry, DB police filed charges on Jan 6 against 17 people, including former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
The complainant, however, challenged the chargesheet through a no-confidence petition on Jan 15.
The court accepted the petition and ordered the CID to carry out a further investigation.
