Omar bin Hadi, the brother of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, has filed a general diary (GD) at Dhaka's Shahbagh Police Station citing “security concerns”.
He lodged the police complaint around 8pm on Saturday without mentioning any names, citing “security concerns” for himself and Hadi’s children, said Shahbagh Police chief Md Moniruzzaman.
The government appointed Omar as the second secretary at the Bangladesh High Commission in Birmingham, UK, on Jan 15.
He believes Hadi’s killers may cause “unpleasant incidents” at any time since they have not been arrested.
Different types of propaganda are being spread through various social media groups to “tarnish the reputation” of his family, he alleged.
He said, “They are threatening to kill me. Thus, Shaheed Hadi’s children and I are suffering from insecurity.”
Hadi, who gained prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, had announced to run as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency in the national election.
On Dec 12, he was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar. He was airlifted to Singapore for treatment, where he died on Dec 18.
