Lightning strikes claim 2 lives in Mymensingh’s Gouripur, Gafargaon

One of the victims includes a farmer

Two men have died in separate lightning strikes across Mymensingh’s Gouripur and Gafargaon Upazilas.

The incidents occurred around 2pm on Saturday, according to police.

The victims have been identified as Rahmat Ali Ujjal, 30, a grocer from Konapara village in Gouripur, and Momtaz Ali Khan, 58, from Dhairgaon village in Gafargaon.

Rahmat was visiting his brother-in-law's paddy field when he was struck by lightning, said Hazrat Ali, chairman of the Gouripur Union Council.

He died on the spot.

"Locals recovered the body and brought it back to his home," the chairman added.

Gouripur Police chief Kamrul Hasan confirmed the incident.

In Gafargaon’s Usthi Union, Momtaz was fatally struck by lightning while he was returning home after attending Zuhr prayer.
