Two women and a teenage boy are among five people found dead in Barguna within 24 hours.

The district's police chief (SP) Md Kudrat-E-Khuda said on Saturday the bodies were recovered from Sadar, Patharghata, and Bamna Upazilas.

Three of the victims were found hanging, one died following a mob beating, while the blood-stained body of an auto-rickshaw driver was recovered near a road, he said.

"All deaths are being investigated. Apart from police, other agencies are also working. We are investigating all aspects of the deaths that initially appear to be suicides," said the officer.

In Sadar, Ibrahim Hossain Kalu was lynched on Friday after a local union council member came under attack.

A group of people chased Kalu and one of his associates, beating both.

Kalu died on the spot while his associate was hospitalised with critical injuries.

Sadar police said Kalu was “involved” in crimes.

Meanwhile, the hanging body of a 34-year-old housewife named Mosammat Kona was recovered from Sadar Upazila on Saturday.

Family members described the reason for her death as “suspicious”.

In another development, the hanging body of Saleha Begum, 93, was recovered in another part of the Upazila.

According to her family, she had long suffered from a "mental disorder".

In addition, the hanging body of a teenage college student identified only as Ehsan was recovered from Bamna Upazila. He was a second-year intermediate student.

Police suspect he died by suicide.

In the meantime, auto-rickshaw driver Mizanur Rahman, 45, was found dead with his body soaked in blood in Patharghata Municipality early on Saturday.

His family suspects he may have been killed due to a land dispute.

The body was sent for a post-mortem.
