A man has been detained for entering Chattogram Port illegally in a bid to fulfil his desire to travel abroad by ship.

Security staff apprehended Mahfuz Sheikh around 8:30am on Wednesday at Jetty No. 11 and handed him over to police. Mahfuz hails from Gopalganj.

Port Secretary Omar Faruk said, “In primary questioning, he admitted that he entered the port intending to travel abroad by ship. Security personnel found a passport, national identity card, flattened rice snacks and drinking water in a bag he was carrying.”

On the same day, two more men were detained for illegal entry into the port.

Around 1:15am on Tuesday, security personnel caught a man named Abul Khayer as he tried to sneak in through Gate No. 1 by crawling under a vehicle. Originally from Noakhali, he allegedly intended to steal from the port, according to security staff.

Later, around 2:15pm Wednesday, another man, Mehedi Hasan Bablu from Khagrachhari district, was detained while entering the port using another person’s pass and collecting a gate pass for a covered van.

The port secretary confirmed that all three detainees were handed over to the Port Police Station.
