Police have recovered the body of a young Rohingya woman, who had gone missing a week ago, from a canal in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf.

The body was recovered from Nhila Union’s Leda area around 7pm on Sunday, according to Abu Jayed Md Mazmun Noor, chief of the Teknaf Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Sajeda Akhtar, who lived at Kutupalong Rohingya Camp No. 3 in Ukhiya.

Police have sent her body to the morgue at Cox’s Bazar for autopsy.

OC Noor said, “Locals reported seeing the body of a young woman floating in the canal at Lamar Para. A police team then went to the scene and recovered the body.”

“There were injury marks on different parts of the deceased young woman’s body, but we have not initially determined who killed her or why.”

Citing her family, the police official said, “A week ago, Sajeda Akhtar left her house in the camp. She did not return. She has been missing since then.”
