Another student has succumbed to his injuries after the fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka, raising the death toll from the tragedy to 34.

The latest victim, 13-year-old Zarif, died at 9:10am on Saturday during treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, according to Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the facility.

Zarif had been in intensive with burns covering 40 percent of his body, including his respiratory tract, said Dr Shawon.

On Friday, the burn institute's Director Dr Mohammad Nasir Uddin had said that the condition of five students under treatment was “critical”. Zarif was one of those children.

With his passing, the death toll at the burn institute has risen to 16.

On Jul 21, a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed into a building on the Milestone School and College campus in Diabari. It has since become the deadliest military aviation accident in the country’s history. Of the 34 people who have died so far, most were children.

Another 49 people with burns and injuries from the incident are hospitalised at the burn institute, the Combined Military Hospital, and other hospitals.
