One dies, seven injured as salt-carrying bulkhead sinks near Hatia

An elderly man has died after a salt-laden bulkhead sank off Hatia, an island Upazila in Noakhali. 

Seven others were injured in the incident.

The vessel went down in the Bay of Bengal, west of Bhashan Char, around 9:30am on Wednesday, according to Abdul Kader, finance secretary of the Chattogram Divisional Cargo Workers Union.

The injured were rescued by a fishing boat and brought ashore at Chairman Ghat, he added.
