A low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas may cross the Odisha coast by Saturday, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said.
With the sea remaining rough under its influence, local cautionary signal number three remains in effect at the country's four seaports.
Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Friday that the low would cross the coast through Odisha by the following day.
"After that, it will have little to no impact," he said.
"However, as there are winds at sea and conditions remain somewhat rough, a warning has been issued. The situation at sea should improve considerably after midday on Saturday."
The Met Department's warning said squally winds may sweep over the seaports, the north Bay of Bengal, and Bangladesh's coastal areas under the system's influence.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
On the weather outlook for Dhaka, Hafizur Rahman said one or two spells of rain were possible in the capital on Friday night, while Saturday was likely to see little rainfall with some sunshine in between.
The Met Department's 24-hour forecast from 6pm on Friday said light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds were likely at many places across the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
Day and night temperatures across the country may fall slightly during this period.
In the 24 hours to 6pm on Friday, the highest rainfall recorded in the country was 82mm at Tetulia. Dhaka received one millimetre of rain in the same period.
