Journalist-teacher Anis Ahmed’s four poetry books launched

Four poetry books of expatriate journalist-teacher Anis Ahmed have been launched at a ceremony in Dhaka.

Prof Anisuzzaman and Prof Rafiqul Islam unwrapped the book covers at the Shilpakala Academy on Friday.

Swadesh Shoilee has published ‘Kobita, Brishti O Tumi’ containing 96 romantic poems.

Joyoty Prokashoni is the publisher of the three other books – ‘Jyotsnar Jole Jwor’ with 94 poems, Shobdo O Noishobder Sur’ with 86 poems and ‘Elysiumer Protikkhay’ which has 64 poems. All the three books were available at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.   

Dhaka University Bangla department Professors Rafique Ullah Khan and Baitullah Quaderee were also present.

Anis recalled how he started writing poems while teaching literature and how the Liberation War inspired patriotism in his works.

Starting his teaching career at Notre Dame College in Dhaka, Anis also taught in Chittagong University and Dhaka University for a long time. 

He started his career in journalism by joining BBC Radio in 1994. He has been working at Voice of America since 2001.
