Ex-minister Noman surrenders, bailed

Former fisheries minister in the BNP-led coalition government Abdullah Al Noman on Thursday surrendered to court in a case filed by the former Anticorruption Bureau in 1998 and was granted bail.

Dhaka, Sept 4 (bdnews24.com) – Former fisheries minister in the BNP-led coalition government Abdullah Al Noman on Thursday surrendered to court in a case filed by the former Anticorruption Bureau in 1998 and was granted bail.
Noman appeared before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge and appealed for bail. Judge Md Azizul Haque granted him anticipatory bail on a Tk 50,000 bond.
In the hearing former additional attorney general Abdur Rezak Khan said Noman had been sick and been under treatment abroad for long. He returned on Wednesday and in a mark of respect for the court he turned himself in.
Besides, the prosecution could not present any witness against Noman so far in the case, the court heard.
Metropolitan public prosecutor Ehsanul Haq Samaji opposed the bail prayer.
The case details say the now defunct bureau on August 7, 1997 served a notice on Noman asking him to submit an account of his wealth.
Noman did not submit any, bureau official Abdullah Al Zahid on August 20, 1998 filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station.
