"Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had said that Oct 24 will be the last day of the 9th Parliament. It was the decision of the Business Advisory Committee as well," Opposition chief whip Zainal Abdin Farrouque told reporters on Wednesday.
He said that BNP will decide the date on which it would join the session only after the Wednesday’s meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Parliament.
The Committee is scheduled to sit at 3.30 pm.
The 19th session commenced on Sep 12 without the opposition. The Business Advisory Committee on the same day decided to run the session through to Oct 24.
Countdown to the 10th parliamentary elections starts from Oct 25.
The 15th constitutional amendment mandates holding the general election in 90 days to the expiry of the incumbent Parliament, which is the period between Oct 25 and Jan 24 next year.
Farroque informed the party's stance on joining Parliament to reporters at the Ladies Club of the Eskaton Garden area in the capital on Wednesday.
"A meeting of the Opposition MPs was held at the party chairperson's Gulshan office yesterday (Tuesday), which has been adjourned till Wednesday."
He said that it was yet to be decided when and where the meeting would resume.
Asked whether they would table a proposal for the poll-time government upon joining the session, Farroque said, "We will not go for such a foolish move as we are minority in the House. Our proposal would be easily rejected."
He added that the Opposition MPs support Khaleda's proposal on an interim poll-time government, which would reflect in their speeches at the House, once they join the session.
