Aam Jonotar Dal’s General Secretary Tarek Rahman has invited former National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders Tasnim Jara and Tajnuva Jabeen to join his party.

He made the call in a Facebook post at 2:10pm on Sunday.

“For those who are leaving NCP because of Jamaat, the doors of the Aam Jonotar Dal are open,” Tarek wrote in the post.

Tajnuva resigned on Sunday afternoon amid reports of a potential alliance between the NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami. She served as a joint convenor of the party, while Jara was the party’s senior joint member secretary.

Their resignations sparked social media uproar.

“In our political history, there have been debates and arguments, but we have no financial scandals. When necessary, we have asked the public for donations for the party, but we have never extorted money from anyone,” Tarek wrote in his post.

He promised to help the former NCP leaders to run in the general election scheduled to be held on Feb 12. He said he was willing to make the concession for the leaders as they took decisions in support of the Liberation War.

The deadline to collect and submit nomination papers to contest the general election expires at 5pm on Monday.

The Election Commission registered the Aam Jonotar Dal on Dec 21. The party was also assigned the butterfly electoral symbol. Tarek made headlines in early November by staging a hunger strike demanding the registration.
