BNP pays final tribute to Tariqul Islam

The BNP has paid its final tribute to veteran party leader and minister Tariqul Islam, a four-time MP from Jashore Sadar.

The body of Tariqul, a standing committee member of BNP, was brought to the BNP’s central office at the capital’s Nayapaltan early Monday, where he was honoured with the party’s flag.  

Led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party’s standing committee members including Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy placed wreaths on his body to pay their respects. They also observed a moment of silence in tribute. 

Hundreds of political leaders from several wings of the BNP, prominent personalities, and representatives from several organisations were also present. 

A namaj-e-janaza for the veteran BNP leader was held at the BNP’s office.

“Tariqul was devoted to serving the people throughout his political life. His demise is an irreparable loss for all of us,” said Mirza Fakhrul Islam.

To mourn Tariqul’s death, party flags were kept at half-mast and black flags were flown at all BNP offices across the country.

His funeral service was held on Monday at the party’s headquarters in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan at 10am and at the parliament complex at 11:15am. His body has been flown to Jashore, where a third funeral service will be held at the Jashore Eid congregation ground after Asr prayers.

He will be buried at the Karbala graveyard in his ancestral home in Jashore.
