Seven BNP leaders secure anticipatory bail from High Court in police case

The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to seven BNP senior leaders in a case filed by the police on charges of “fuelling violence with his provocative speech”.

They are Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman and Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu.

Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hossain granted the bail on Wednesday.

Advocate Zainul Abedin and Barrister Moudud Ahmed appeared for the petitioner. On the other hand, Deputy Attorney General Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir represented the state.

“The bail orders will remain effective until police submit their report to the lower court,” Abedin told reporters.

On Tuesday, BNP leader Moudud Ahmed was granted the anticipatory bail in the same case.

On Monday, police filed the case against 55 BNP leaders and activists for ‘instigating people against the government’ and ‘preventing the police from doing their duty’.

Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam of Hatirjheel Police Station filed the case. At least seven among the accused were remanded for a day by a Dhaka court.

The central BNP leaders, including Alamgir, had given “provocative” speeches during the public meeting the BNP organised on Sunday, according to the case.

The leaders and activists of the BNP and its allies disrupted traffic in Moghbazar, attacked the police and vandalised some vehicles following the speeches from the BNP leaders, police alleged.
