Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam MP from Kurigram dies

The Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament Tajul Islam Choudhury has died.

He passed away undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in Dhaka on Monday night, according to the Jatiya Party’s press wing.

The member of Jatiya Party Presidium was elected MP from Kurigram-2. He was president of parliamentary standing committee on the commerce ministry.

He was 73. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Tajul was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit for kidney complications on Sunday afternoon.

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad visited him on Monday afternoon.

A Namaz-e-Janaza of Tajul will be held at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building on Tuesday afternoon.

No decision on his burial has been taken yet as his children live abroad.

Hailing from Sabujparha of Kurigram Sadar Upazila, he was elected member of Parliament several times.

Besides Ershad, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad, Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader and Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader condoled the death of Tajul.
