Road Transport Minister Quader says he kept promise to make Eid travel comfortable

Travelling during Eid holidays this year has been more comfortable than any other time, Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader has claimed.

“The road condition throughout the country is much better than in the last few years. I have kept my promise,” Quader told reporters after visiting the Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Wednesday.

Most bus terminals and train stations in the capital were overcrowded with homebound people. The three-day Eid vacation starts on Friday.

Eid travellers were expected to suffer during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, as it fell on the beginning of the monsoon season.

The minister was desperate to ease sufferings of holidaymakers as he suspended some roadwork at different points and issued an order to finish renovations as quickly as possible.

“I took special care during this Eid and sped up work,” Quader said.

“I have asked the people in each counter here who never said ‘business is low’ or ‘road condition is bad’ like they normally do,” the minister said while sharing the experience of his Gabtali visit.

Quader also claimed that he has not received any complaint of ‘extra fare’ from passengers and vowed to take tough measures if anyone does.

The Dhaka-Chattogram highway is free from traffic tailback, he said adding that travelling up north was hampered due to the slow pace of ferries in Paturia.
