Deputy Minister Arif Khan Joy faces wrath of BNP activists in London

Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy has been at tge receiving end of the fury of BNP activists in London.

Police detained two BNP activists over the incident in front of the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon local time.

MA Malique, President of the BNP’s UK chapter, told bdnews24.com police later released the activists.

A video of the incident posted on the social media shows the BNP activists surrounding Joy in front of the centre and pushing him towards the gate while BNP leaders are trying to calm them.

The BNP’s UK unit has been staging demonstrations since Tuesday when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in London to join the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

They are demanding party chief Khaleda Zia’s freedom. She has been in jail since Feb 8 when a court sentenced to five years in prison for corruption.

The UK Awami League is also demonstrating in support of Hasina, and demanding extradition of Khaleda’s son and acting BNP chief in exile Tarique Rahman from London.

BNP leader Malique said the incident occurred when deputy minister angered the BNP activists as he tried to snap some photos of the protests.

UK Awami League General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruk said, “Attack, harassment – these are the BNP’s nature. It doeen’t believe in democracy.”
