Police arrest Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Jewel
Police have arrested Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewel, leaders of his organisation say.

Saiful Islam Feroz, senior joint general secretary of the BNP’s volunteer wing, said police’s Detective Branch picked Jewel up from his house in Dhaka’s Rajarbagh on Friday night.
Jewel was among those injured in a clash in Dhaka on Nov 30 between police and the BNP activists who were marching around party chief Khaleda Zia’s motorcade on her way back home from court after a hearing.
Khaleda has condemned the arrest of Jewel and demanded his immediate release in a statement.
She said the government was arresting leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates ‘to destroy the young leadership against misrule’.
Swechchhasebak Dal has called demonstration across Bangladesh on Saturday to demand the release of Jewel.
Its President Shafiul Bari Babu urged the supporters to join the demonstration.
