They have also locked the gate to their offices, BNP activists said.

The BNP had planned to hold a party registration drive and a program to pray for the health of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, said Pirojpur BNP General Secretary Alamgir Hossain.

“But when a few leaders and I attempted to enter the offices we were blocked by police. They then forced the office peon to lock the main gate.”

“They told us we could not hold any BNP events today.”

Pirojpur BNP Vice President Abdus Salam Baten, Joint General Secretary Shaikh Shahidullah Shaheed, Mirza Zahurul Haq, Sarwar Hossain Howladar, Municipal BNP Joint Convener Nadir Khan Raju, Pirojpur Jubo Dal Co-Commissioner Monirul Islam Monir and Pirojpur Chhatra Dal leader Tanzid Hassan Pramukh were present at the time, he said.

Pirojpur BNP President Gazi Nuruzzaman Babul condemned police’s behaviour and lodged his protest against it.

Local police officials offered no comment on the incident.
