Awami League's reaction to 16th amendment decision shows start of its downfall, says Mirza Fakhrul
The reaction to the verdict on the 16th amendment has ‘shown the true face’ of the Awami League government and will begin its downfall, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The party leader spoke briefly prior to a prayer service in Dhaka on Saturday.
The ruling party cannot govern, said Mirza Fakhrul.
“The airport has to be shut down because of a fire on the third floor, Hajj pilgrims are unable to make their journey, it’s one thing after another … they cannot fix the roads in Dhaka, let alone elsewhere.”
“As we have repeatedly said, the reaction to the verdict is further proof they have no moral right to remain in power. They do so through force, through guns and pistols. They would not last a second if they didn’t have the weapons.”
The BNP’s youth wing, the Jubo Dal, organised the prayer service at the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan to pray for the recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who underwent eye surgery at London’s Moorefield Eye Hospital on Aug 8.
The BNP secretary general also criticised the Awami League affiliated Chhatra League for harassing BNP activists at Dhaka University.
“This is the Awami League’s democracy,” he said.
